Special Interest Group: Two Sectors, One Region: How Can Community Colleges Effectively Collaborate with the Senior Colleges and Universities while Remaining Distinctive?
This broad-ranging SIG is one manifestation of a new level of collaboration between the two regional accrediting agencies that serve the same geographical area, which is itself a distinctive arrangement in American accreditation structures. The topics to be explored can include: How can student pathways between the two sectors' institutions be enhanced? What can faculty and staff learn from each other about how best to serve their particular student populations? What historical factors led to the evolution of two agencies, and are those factors still relevant? How does the open access mission of the community colleges shape how these institutions demonstrate their successes? What are the forces that will shape the future of both sectors, and how best can we respond to them?
