Minerva Schools at KGI: Faculty Development for Fully Active Teaching and Learning

Faculty and administrators from the Minerva Schools at the Keck Graduate Institute will lead this workshop and focus on the principles in use at Minerva to train faculty to develop and deliver fully active-learning lesson plans. Attendees will work in groups to refine a supplied lesson plan to make it more active, using a development guide and other materials provided before the session. Mirroring Minerva’s in-class pedagogy, at least 75% of the session will be dedicated to fully active learning; no more than 25% will be reserved for direct "information transfer" from the presenters. Q&A with Minerva professors will include our approach to faculty development, encouraging a shift away from lecture and toward active learning facilitation. The Minerva Schools at the Keck Graduate Institute is a four-year undergraduate program based on a novel technology platform to deliver small seminars in real time, and offers a hybrid residential model where students live together, rotating through seven cities around the world.
